Introduction
The Korner restaurant, (originally a Doppio Zero franchise) in Mandela Rhodes Place, was bought, in 2019, by French restaurateur (also owner of The 41 in Camps Bay).
Design Brief
The owner asked us to come up with a fun, bright and colorful concept; an oasis suitable for serving burgers and french fries to the Cape Town CBD population. Our brief was to come up with a restaurant design that would appeal to both tourists and office workers in the area. We were then given a tight 6 week deadline to manage the entire restaurant renovation.
The main goal is to create a restaurant/ bar that attracts corporate and tourists alike, looking for a spot to relax and refresh while enjoying simple food made with fresh ingredients.
The bar area would be a day bar, with an understated counter , welcoming clients that want to quench their thirst either with a beer, a great coffee or a healthy juice.
The high ceiling space with wooden planters that could be made of reclaimed wood for a more rustic look and give an oasis look in the heart of the city.
Outcome
Together with 29 contractors we met the deadline and the restaurant is now open and proving very popular.
Client Comments
“I contracted ReDress to design and coordinate my restaurant renovation because Helene-Marie brought fresh ideas and designs to the table that I would not have thought of myself. They gave me confidence that they would be able complete the job in a very short space of time which was a real challenge for them as there no less than 20 contractors involved. The added bonus was that, being French, I was able to communicate in my own language with Helene-Marie making the whole process so much easier and I felt comfortable in the knowledge that my expectations in terms of a European quality of service would be met. It was extremely good to be able to trust ReDress to manage the renovation and coordinate all the contractors for me when I was out of the country as they were on site every day to supervise. The key strengths are that they are very hands on” – Gilles Blanc – Proprietor and Owner of The 41 and The Korner restaurants” Giles
