Introduction
The redesign and renovation of a tired, unassuming office block in Observatory
The design process – During and Before Completion
Client brief
Our client asked for a new office to be designed and renovated in order to make a happier more inspiring, warm and friendly office environment to encourage staff to enjoy coming into the office again after Covid and to increase creativity and interaction. The space also needed to be cleverly designed to divide a portion of the space into a 2nd independent rentable office space.
Outcome
Our journey began with an old, dull office space that lacked inspiration and vitality. With the vision of creating a fun, creative, and welcoming environment for our staff, we embarked on a renovation project that would transform the space into a hub of energy and innovation. Our goal was twofold: to entice employees back to the office after the isolating effects of the pandemic and to enhance creativity and interaction among the team.
To achieve this, we adopted a multifaceted approach. First, we strategically knocked down walls and built dry walls to create a seamless flow throughout the space while simultaneously dividing a portion into a second independent rentable office area. This clever design allowed us to maximize functionality while accommodating potential tenants.
We recognized the power of aesthetics in setting the desired ambiance, so we employed clever paint techniques and enlisted local artists to create stunning murals that adorned the walls. These vibrant and captivating artworks injected color, life, and imagination into every corner, providing a stimulating backdrop for employees to thrive.
Additionally, we incorporated innovative furniture and playful elements in the lounge areas, and communal spaces to encourage informal interactions and collaboration. The office was no longer a place solely for work but also a space where people could relax, socialize, and unleash their creativity.
The result of our efforts was remarkable. The transformed office space exuded a palpable sense of excitement and inspiration. Staff members eagerly returned to work, invigorated by the vibrant atmosphere. The enhanced layout and design facilitated natural connections and collaborations, sparking new ideas and fostering a strong sense of community.
Moreover, the introduction of the independent rentable office space generated additional income and maximized the utility of the premises. This smart utilization of the available area allowed us to support our own operations while also creating opportunities for other businesses.
In summary, our renovation project successfully revitalized the old office space into a fun, creative, and welcoming environment. Through strategic layout modifications, captivating artwork, and thoughtfully curated furniture, we achieved our objectives of reigniting the enthusiasm of our staff, promoting creativity and interaction, and creating a versatile space that accommodates both our needs and the requirements of potential tenants. The newly transformed office has become a testament to the power of design in enhancing productivity, engagement, and overall well-being in the workplace.
